Most of the examples in A Type Primer are intended as exercises you can do yourself.

Working with an A2 sheet (420 x 594 mm / 16.5 x 23.4 in), design a broadside for a typeface, providing as much information about it as you think a novice might want to know (its history, its designer, its unique characteristics). Include a complete alphabet (upper and lower case, plus numerals) and, at large scale, at least one letterform that expresses what you consider to be the typeface’s most readily identifiable quality.

Use two colors: black and a Pantone color whose value approximates 50% of black.

The goal here is to use color, scale, and value to establish the greatest implied distance between figure and ground

Afterward, consider your sense of proportion. How is your page organized?
